What is HHC?
Everything about effects, consumption, legality and in general what is HHC?
Of course you know CBD, but have you heard of HHC? HHC is the cannabis ingredient that everyone is talking about right now. Because unlike CBD, it is supposed to produce a state of intoxication that is reminiscent of the effects of THC. But what exactly is HHC and what can the popular ingredient really do?
supHerb did some research for you! In this article we cover the most important questions about the new super cannabinoid.
What is HHC?
Everyone talks about it but you always ask yourself what is HHC? Here's the somewhat dry answer: HHC stands for hexahydrocannabinol and is an active ingredient that was first discovered in 1944 and has recently experienced a renaissance. Since HHC is only found in very small amounts in the cannabis plant, it has to be produced from pure CBD in a complex laboratory process. Strong pressure and the help of hydrogen cause the splitting of carbon compounds and convert CBD into HHC.
Due to the chemical manufacturing process, HHC is often labeled as a synthetic cannabinoid (such as B. Spice) viewed. But that is wrong. Because although HHC is not derived directly from hemp plants, it is a product based on CBD - the natural ingredient of the hemp plant - and can therefore be described more as a semi-synthetic cannabinoid.
HHC vs. THC
As described, HHC is obtained from CBD. In its chemical structure, however, the substance is similar to THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis. Therefore, the effects of HHC and THC are also described as similar, with HHC being considered weaker.
HHC has a strong calming, relaxing and soporific effect. Similar to THC, it binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body and can produce psychoactive effects when consumed in larger amounts.
For a few years, scientists have been investigating whether HHC can also be produced in a way in which the ingredient cannot produce a psychoactive effect. This research is still in its early stages, but as soon as there is any relevant news supHerb will let you know.
How to consume HHC?
supHerb does not recommend taking HHC. However, for the sake of completeness of this article, we will discuss consumption.
HHC can be vaporized using a cartridge and the vapor absorbed through the lungs. However, buds to which HHC has been attached can also be smoked. (As of July 2022)
On the effect:
Beginners (when vaping) usually notice an effect about 5 minutes after taking 1-2 puffs. If the cannabinoid household is already saturated, effects can theoretically also occur after more tokes. It should be borne in mind that an overdose is theoretically possible and that the effect only sets in with a time delay. Also, HHC consumed in combination with THC produces a stronger effect than consuming just one cannabinoid.
